The Dreamer

When I was in art school I seriously tinkered with the idea of becoming an illustrator.  The schooling required to become an illustrator meant that I had to spend even more time away from home and with two little ones to care for, was just something out of the question. However, I still love telling stories through paintings and when I wrote a product review for Vita Sciences Maxasorb Melatonin, I thought why not paint something that goes with the theme.

Many people suffer from insomnia and sleep does not come as easy to everyone as it should. So what would someone who suffers from insomnia wish for? I know that I would wish for drifting off to sleep as soon as my head goes down on a pillow. To convey that message I wanted to paint a figure that is about to fall asleep and that is being effected by the magic of the product. The colors of the Maxasorb packaging are purple and needed to be part of the painting's chosen colors. So after some experimentation, I decided to have her drift off to sleep in something reminiscence of the cosmos. That's the only place I could think of that has vivid purples and funky sparkly things that might work for the idea. If I would have created the painting for the company I would have put the Melatonin creme in her hand and that would have tied the painting to the product even more.

Anyhow, this quick rendering was fun to do and I love to hear what you think about it.
